The tradition

Five centuries, one cup

Reading coffee grounds grew up with the coffee houses of the Ottoman world, and Turkish coffee culture is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The reading traditionally follows a small ritual:

  1. Drink & wishSip to the edge of the grounds, then hold a quiet wish.
  2. Cover & turnPlace the saucer over the cup and turn them over together.
  3. Seal itRest a coin or ring on the upturned base while the cup cools.
  4. ReadTurn the cup back and read the shapes — where they sit tells when.

Position is part of the meaning: the rim speaks of now, the base of what is far, the handle of your side of the story. Add side views after your photo to let the reader see them.
